Electrical Safe Work Practice - NFPA 70e
Industry Leadership/Electrical Project Supervision
Programmable Logic Controllers
Structured Cabling - BICSIlevel x
AutoCAD for Wiremen
This course introduces this powerful program to electrical workers and through laboratories allows the student to become competent in two dimensional drawing and plotting. Approved fifth year elective. Prerequisites: Reasonable computer and drafting skills, completion of the inside third year.
Cable Splicing
This course introduces Journeyman Wiremen to theories of medium voltage cable design and termination. Through lecture and hands on exercises the Wiremen will become proficient in hand taped splices and termination associated with 5kv-35kv cables. This course will provide the Wiremen with the skill sets necessary to function as a medium voltage cable splicer. This includes analyzing cable insulation and compositions, categorizing cable types, formulating safe work practices and reconstructing medium voltage slices and terminations.
Electrical Safe Work Practice - NFPA 70e
This course introduces Journeyman Wiremen to safety protocols set forth in the National Fire Protection Association's 70e standards for working with and near energized electrical circuits. This course will consist of two three hour classes. This class will provide the Wireman with the skill sets necessary to function in a supervisory safety roles. After completion of this course, the Wireman will understand ground fault calculations, and be able to select the proper level of personal protective equipment and safety protocols.
Industry Leadership/Electrical Project Supervision
This program provides important insight into the issues and problems faced by foreman, general foreman, stewards and union officials in today's electrical construction industry. This award winning course was developed by NECA and is used extensively throughout the United States and Canada. Approved fifth year elective. Prerequisites: Completion of the inside third year.
Instrumentation I
This course introduces the electrical worker to the skills required to install calibrate process control instruments. Special emphasis placed on the measurement of flow temperature pressure and level. Approved fifth year elective. Prerequisites: Good knowledge of motor control practice and theory. Completion of the inside fourth year.
Instrumentation II
This is a sixty hour course which provides training in the skills needed to evaluate and perform analysis on process control systems. This course also begins to encourage and emphasize to the Journeyman the concept of "systems thinking" which is so critical to control system evaluation. Additional study will be concentrated in the areas of fiber signaling, digital systems, and more. Calibration concepts, transmitter basics and hands-on calibration will be discussed and performed on a variety of temperature and pressure instruments using the Fluke-744 HART Calibrator. Prerequisite: Completion of Instrumentation I.
Programmable Logic Controllers
This course of study provides electrical workers with intense hands on exposure to several different types of PLC's and their associated installation and programming requirements. Both discrete, internal and peripheral devices are discussed and their interactions studied. Approved fifth year elective. Prerequisites: Good knowledge of motor control theory and practice. Above average computer skills. Completion of the inside fourth year.
Structured Cabling - BICSIlevel x
These courses provide the electrical worker with knowledge of low voltage, limited energy data cabling systems and components. The appropriate BICSI registration examinations are offered at the end of the course providing BICSI registration for those that pass the examinations. Approved fifth year elective. Prerequisites: None for level I. Two years documented teledata experience for level II.
OSHA 30
The Local Labor Management Cooperative Committee has generously agreed to provide grants-in-aid to Journeyman who successfully complete an OSHA course and have not taken one in the past. These grants-in-aid amount Journeyman's scale for the 10 or 30 hours of class time. Attendance is mandatory and there will be an examination at the end of each section. All classes will be scheduled as 30 hour courses, and individual wishing to complete an OSHA 10 hour course simply needs to complete the first 10 hours of training and successfully complete the 10 hour examination, those wishing the full 30 hour certification merely remain in class for the entire section and pass the final examination.
Welding I
This course introduces the electrical worker to arc welding and electrode selection in all positions with ferrous metals. It also provides hands on experience using an oxy-acetylene outfit as well as a plasma cutter. This course is entirely hands on. Approved fifth year elective. Prerequisites: None
Welding II
This is a continuation of Welding I and provides competencies in MIG and TIG all position welding, as well as experience joining non-ferrous metals. Selection of inert gas and filler material is stressed. This course is entirely hands on. Approved fifth year elective. Prerequisites: Successful completion of welding I or a passing score on a competency examination.
